Meditation- my own story.

Updated: Sep 23, 2024

In my early twenties I moved to London to develop a career. I had studied art and design and was determined that whatever I did work wise would involve helping people.

I started counselling training and took volunteering roles. I worked with people affected by issues including HIV/AIDS, substance misuse and mental health.

This led to full time paid work in some challenging environments at a far younger age than my peers. During this stage of my life I also experienced bereavements, including watching someone die of cancer.

I developed a cough. In spite of various prescriptions it didn’t shift. I was offered inhalers. When I asked if it was possible to do more tests before embarking on another round of medication. I was told that this was the only option available.

I was starting to recognise my own underlying lack of ease, so I decided that I had to tackle things another way. What was the cough trying to show me? Could I shift it myself? I reckoned I probably could. And even if I couldn’t, at the very least I could change how I was interacting with it. I stopped and tried to listen to what my system needed.

I didn’t know then all that I now do about vibrational energy. This is why I am so passionate to share what I know. I want to help people investigate what is really going on when our systems communicate issues through physical pain. It’s like being a detective and listening to the messages our bodies give us as clues to what is really going on.

So, I took action on the message from the cough. I talked to my employer, I adjusted my hours. I took on less. I took time out from work. I started swimming regularly. I learned clinically standardised meditation. I started a course in aromatherapy. I spent time sitting and healing with my cats.

Every day I practiced my meditation routine, starting simple, gradually extending the time for which I sat. The cats joined in. They loved it!!!

This rapidly progressed into the emergence of a range of visualisations which helped me to release stress and ground my energy. These weren’t instructed on the course, my system simply presented them as tools which expanded from my meditation practice. They worked, so I just went with them and did what my body needed me to do to feel better, and one day, I noticed that the cough was gone.

I see this now as the start of my journey in listening to my body in a new way. Every so often, our systems might bring a sense of dis-ease (as I now view it) to our awareness for resolution. I’ve learned how to listen, follow the clues and not try to push through. I can teach you how to do the same if you’re open to it.

With lots of practice over time, I found that these tools could be used in many situations to bring presence and ride waves of fear. I could be anywhere and call on this sense of inner peace to counter things like sitting on a packed and noisy London tube for example. All I needed to do was briefly close my eyes and tune in. This connection was the main thing that helped me to keep my cool whilst in close proximity to the tube bombings at this time.

I began to integrate these systems into ways of assisting volunteers and staff I was training. I could use a simple visual image or scene to guide people to connect with a lighter, more helpful energy. Many said that these methods brought them profound change.

It was in my work for a breast cancer charity that I was introduced to reiki. This began my exploration of the principles of entrainment, manifestation and intent. I began to learn the powerful impact which these energies can have on our walk through life.

I went on to learn all stages of reiki as well as many other methods and have been teaching for almost 20 years now. I have many level 3 diplomas in other related holistic therapies including Colour Therapy, which is my passion.

When I became pregnant with my first child my ability to tune in helped to navigate the less comfortable stages of pregnancy. I continued to work full days, walk miles to and from work and experienced no issues.

I had always been interested in hypnotherapy so having a child was a great reason to learn this skill for myself. I took to self hypnosis with ease. When it came to giving birth, my ability to focus baffled the midwives as I continued chatting calmly whilst they measured my intense contractions with their own eyes.

I had a lengthy discussion with one midwife about the process I used. She was very impressed and said “you should find a way of teaching this. You could help so many people!” I promised that I would find a way once I had caught up on some sleep. That part took far longer than I anticipated!!!

Since my children were born, I have focussed more intently on assisting private clients. Whether offering one to one healing, support, training or groups, I am sure to include these simple but powerful methods wherever I can.

It is for this reason that I put a limited series of my guided visualisations into print. To help share the energy of my healing artwork and word painting to a wider audience.

There is plenty more in progress and I can’t wait to share it with you, so sign up to my website and join me - Together we can surf the waves of life!

Wishing you magic in every day
