ONE VISION
The other day my brother got married. It was a beautiful occasion. So much thought and detail had gone into every moment — the venue, the setting for the reception, the care for their guests.
My brother has this unmatchable attention to detail. It’s one of the things that makes him so wonderful, and also so excellent at his job. He really is remarkable. He’s found someone who understands just how remarkable he is and for this I am eternally grateful.
His new husband is a radiator. Literally. One look into his eyes and you’re captured. It’s just impossible not to smile back and engage. He is all heart. Love. Light.
Together they are capable, creative, intelligent — a truly captivating team. So it was guaranteed this event was going to change the course of history. And I truly believe it has.
There were the usual anxieties in the lead-up for everyone, in different ways. And then there was the relief when everyone managed to be where they needed to be on time and to say and do the right things. And then the ceremony ended and the celebrations began.
And here, I met new friends and family. I was asked genuinely interested questions about who I am and what I do. I gave and received lots of hugs. We all had fun.
Then, in the days that came afterwards, when I reflected on the whole experience, I continued to see hearts in all kinds of different, slightly bizarre settings.
As you know, I take these signs seriously. Images of them are woven into the artwork for this post actually. And alongside all of this, I have had this one word repeatedly coming to mind:
Segregation.
Now just to be crystal clear, this is not because there was an ounce of it involved in the event! Quite the opposite in fact, and I think that's why it came up.
It's because this celebration of love, of togetherness, connection and closeness brought something into the light — and, certainly in my own case, helped to shift beyond it too. You see, I had this profound sense of realisation about just how deeply the heaviness and pain of our collective recent years is borne from our sense of separation.
The word segregate originates from the Latin verb segregare, meaning “to separate from the flock” or “to set apart.”
Separate from which flock?
Set apart from what?
This then brought to mind a religious context for me. Now, I have encountered different aspects of organised religion throughout my life. There are elements of it that I can see make sense. Equally, there are parts — particularly those which encourage things like segregation — which just lose me altogether. Anyway, this really isn't about religion. My biggest issue with any group, club or affiliation is the point at which it says:
I am right, and therefore you are wrong. And so, we must keep apart.
Because here’s my question:
If we are all the flock. If we are all ‘God’s children’, however we define that to be, who is there to separate — and from whom?
Whatever attempts may be made to divide us according to our differences, we come together, we have the ability to return to light and love, when we remember our common connection — which in the face of it all is that we are one.
We originate from one source. And we return to one.
This event filled my heart because it brought us together again on multiple levels. For that, I am truly grateful and I really hope everyone who was there received a little piece of that too.
Now another interesting connection is that at the same time as the wedding, celebrations were taking place for what would have been Freddie Mercury's 80th birthday.
I have also had the words of Queen’s One Vision regularly coming to mind. I often find that there are clear divine messages through song so I always listen to what I am being shown when this happens.
And when I looked up the lyrics, the answer was crystal clear to me! So it feels only fitting to share them as a reminder — an anthem, actually:
“One light, one flesh, one bone, one true religion. One voice, one hope, one real decision.”
So, I encourage you — all of us — to remember this, in particular the next time you meet someone new.
Just look into their eyes.
See their light.
Remember our connection.
And let love lead.
Sent with all of mine.
